It required me finding alternative pins from a different vendor so that my shelves would not collapse, and I could truly use each shelf fully. Since standard industry shelf pins are equal on both sides and equal to the longer end of the IKEA shelf pin, it appears to me the IKEA deviated from industry standard and purposely shortened the pin. Especially, since IKEA indicates you're not flip the shelf pin so that you're resting the shelf on the longer pin side.
